The final PTO meeting was held in May. We said goodbye to Maria Newman and honored her for her wonderful contributions by naming her the 2009 PTO Volunteer of the Year. She has served as President and Volunteer Coordinator and could be seen at many activities throughout her tenure at LMS. We truly appreciate all she has done. We also said goodbye to Tina Morrill who has been wonderful as our Secretary. Her notes have been a great way to keep those who couldn't make it to our meetings informed. She, too, was willing to step in and help wherever help was needed. Our thanks a gratitude go with her.
We welcomed Kathy O'Regan as our new Secretary and Christine Stapleford as our new Volunteer Coordinator. We appreciate them stepping into these positions. Deb Conti will continue as our treasurer for this year but is looking for someone willing to take this position beginning in 2010 as her children will be moving onto the high school then.
The PTO will be involved in the activities as the eighth grade finishes out the year. The look for the eighth grade dance is tye-dye. The PTO will take care of decorating the multi-purpose room for the dance. There will be complementary pizza and water and celebratory cake with additional snacks available for purchase. There will be a DJ who will be sure to keep everyone moving.
The PTO is also going to be coordinating book wish lists of specific titles that the teachers would like to see added to their classroom libraries. Many times this year students wanted to read a particular book and there was a waiting list in the library or none available from in the classroom library. When the list is generated parents will be asked to donate their gently used (or new) books to the library. The PTO will match the book with the teacher list and be sure it goes to the teacher who requested it. The hope is that never will there be a time when a student wants to read a book that the book isn't available. Look for more information before the end of the school year.
As always, if you are interested in joining the PTO or would like information about how you could become involved call one of the executive board or the our volunteer coordinator. The contact informationon cane be found on this page.
