Each year Londonderry Middle School holds its biggest fundraiser (along with other schools in the area) during the month of September. In kicking off the school year the PTO usually sends out volunteer interest forms with the hope that parents will want to help out at the various events throughout the year. This year there was a delay and with the magazine fund raiser upon us we find ourselves with very few names to tap from.
An idea was presented that we create a special email address (lmsvolunteer@comcast.net) and put a request out to LMS parents through the various local web sites in hopes that we might get some volunteers. In responding volunteers could specify if they only wanted to volunteer for this event or if they would be willing to be put on a volunteer list for future school events.
The magazine drive includes collection days and store days. The following volunteers are needed: On collection days (Tuesday, September 22nd, (6-8 people), Thursday, September 24th, (6 people) and on Monday, September 28th (4-5 people), volunteers are need to separate and process orders along with a magazine representative. Volunteers, if possible should come with a calculator and arrive at the school by 8:30. On the first collection day volunteers are needed until about noon. Orders fall off after the first day so the second and third day the volunteers aren’t needed for as long. Additionally, if more than 8 people volunteer the first day the time would be shorter.
On store Days (Wednesday, September 23rd, (6 people), Friday, September 25th, (6 people) and Tuesday, September 29th, (4 people) volunteers are needed to collect tickets from students during lunches and exchange for prizes. Volunteers should arrive 15-20 minutes before lunches (arriving by 10:25AM) to set up prize tables.
Finally, on Wednesday the 30th, one volunteer is needed to count all remaining prizes and box up the materials. Anytime during the morning is fine; this job takes about an hour.
Please consider volunteering if you are able to. This is a very worthy fundraiser which, as Mr. Corey recently wrote in his letter home to parents goes "to help us provide for your children. In the past few years monies have allowed us to purchase a new set of mountain bikes that your children will utilize in their physical education classes, as well as support our Artist in Residence Program, the Resilancy4Life Program and offset the cost of some transportation for school field trips. I thank you, in advance, for your generosity.”
Please send your name and times available to lmsvolunteer@comcast.net. This address has been established by the PTO to help facilitate volunteers at the middle school and will only be used to make volunteers aware of opportunities to help.
Thank you for your consideration and any help you may be able to provide.
